When you shop, do you circle the parking lot as many times as you need to in order to find the closest parking spot?
If you do, you’re missing out on the instant exercise! It’s free too.
Wearing a pedometer has made me more aware of little bits of exercise I can squeeze into my day without even thinking about it, including parking in the very back of the parking lot, and walking. When I park in the back of the Meijer parking lot, I walk nearly a quarter mile to the front door. In addition to my regular shopping routine, I usually total about 2 miles on shopping day, by parking in the very back of the lot in every lot, and walking through the store, then back out to the car.
If you were to ask me if I wanted to go for a two mile hike, however, I’d probably not think I was up to that yet. But, here I am walking 2 miles on shopping day.Woot!
Don’t miss out on some great exercise by parking too close. You’re excused if it’s raining though.

I always try to park in the shadiest spot to help keep the car cool
Every little bit helps in the Texas heat, and that spot is often in the back.
