You know, chocolate cake doesn’t tempt me. Cookies…meh.I don’t really go for candy or candy bars either.
However, a good loaf of bread, especially freshly made, and I’m done.
Given that I’m avoiding that sort of thing these days, I seem to be noticing even more how much bread and pasta are just…everywhere.
We rarely eat out because of financial reasons, but last night I went out with my dear friend Tammy and my dear daughter Ruth, and we wound up stopping off at a Mediterranean restaurant that we saw due to a road block and detour. Tammy had never tried Mediterranean food before, and Ruth and I both love it, so we made the decision to go. Actually we made the decision to go after hearing that our husbands bought pizza that night.
In general, Mediterranean food is probably the healthiest stuff you can eat. I ordered the vegetarian starter plate which had to be the largest plate I ever did see. I had enough Baba Ghanouj, Hummus, and Tabouleh for five people. (guess what was for breakfast today? Baba is awesome on an omelet). There were only two Falafels, which was bummer, because you need to dip something into the other three to eat them (two are pastes, and one is a salad).
I make all of these at home and will one day soon share the recipes. Promise.
So I grabbed out some of the very fresh and clearly hand rolled pita bread and indulged myself. I was paying dearly for the “gluten indiscretion” later, but it was totally worth it.

My husband and I just celebrated our 6th anniversary at a Mediterranean restaurant that had to drive an hour to reach, but it was totally worth it. I indulged in the pita bread too, but also realized how much Mediterranean food is gluten-free.
I just love Mediterranean!
